Title 1 - Reading and Math

The Nah Tah Wahsh Title 1 Program is Schoolwide, which means all students are eligible for services. One teacher and 3 assistants are funded through Title 1. The Title 1 staff provide assistance as needed to ensure all students meet high standards, with emphasis on the core subjects of reading and math. The main focus of services is at the early elementary level, with assistance provided at 4th and 5th grade as appropriate.

Title 1 staff work in the regular classroom, as well as provide pullouts for extra direct reading and math instruction for strategic and intensive interventions.

An annual meeting/open house is held every fall to offer parents the opportunity to view the annual report, the school report card, receive information about their student’s progress, and programs available. Other opportunities for parent and community involvement include the following committees, which all would benefit from increased parent and community involvement: School Improvement, Technology, Early Childhood Council, Health, and Cultural Integration with a focus on the Seven Grandfathers teachings.

One method of getting books into our students' homes are through the yearly Book Fairs that take place in December and May.

Title 1, along with the FACE, Head Start, and Youth Services programs hold an annual Family Literacy Night in November, which is Family Literacy month. A rocking chair is given away as the grand prize every year. We have another Literacty Night in December in conjunction with our Book Fair. We call it Soup, Stories, and Santa! Parents, kids and staff enjoy a wonderful night of activities for all ages. Santa reads stories to the children and they are given a free book from him to keep.

Title 1 also administers numerous types of testing to help teachers have a better baseline for each of the students that they are servicing and to identify students who may need extra help.  Some other services that Title 1 either helps with or administers are DIBELS testing, MAPS testing, and the DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment).
