Birch Bark Moccasins

This moccasin is made of woven birch bark strips. This would not have been made for daily footwear, as birch bark does not have the flexibility for walking. The bark would crack even though the weaving gives it some felicity.

It may have possibly been made to cover a foot that was injured. Or it may have been made just to see if it could be done.

It is hard to tell the age of this item, and the owner of the Fort de Buade Museum stated he does not know how old the item is.
