Great Lakes Area Doll

DollThis doll in dressed in traditional Great Lakes fashion. The cloths are the same type of cloths that people of the village would have worn. The shirt is made of leather while the leggings (not pants) are made of cloth. Before trading with Europeans for cloth, the leggings would have also been made of leather. The moccasins are also leather and of the style worn by the people of the village.

The headdress would not have been worn on a daily basis. It is made of beaded leather and wrapped feathers.

The doll's body is made of leather. Note that there is no face. This is because in the early days, dolls did not have faces stitched on them to encourage them to use their imaginations.

Based on the condition of the doll, it is estimated that it was made during the early 1900’s.
