This spirit bowl was made by Nadiya Littlewarrior, a member of the Citizen Potawatomi tribe of Shawnee, Oklahoma. She has been making these types of artifacts from gourds and wood for some time now. She got this idea from some lectures she heard given various Native spiritual people such as Don Perrot and other Neshnabek who she regularly studies and learns with/from. Nadiya is the daughter of Lu Ellis, who is currently studying the Potawatomi language with the Potawatomi Scholar's Program at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. This spirit basket is representative of how life was created by the Spirit of all Life, Mamogosnan. The little figurines inside the basket represent all of creation. The figure on the outside represents the spirit who watches the western door and who is a guardian figure for the Creator. The basket is from a gourd that was grown by Nadiya.
